Volunteer Code of Conduct

Middle World Farms CIC

Volunteers play a vital role in supporting the work of Middle World Farms. This Code of Conduct ensures that all volunteering takes place within a safe, respectful, and professionally governed environment.

By volunteering with us, you agree to uphold the following standards.

1. Respect & Behaviour

Volunteers are expected to:

  • Act respectfully toward staff, volunteers, and visitors
  • Follow guidance from farm leads and supervisors
  • Communicate considerately and constructively
  • Support a positive, inclusive working environment

Disruptive, unsafe, or inappropriate behaviour may result in removal from site.

2. Safeguarding & Duty of Care

Middle World Farms hosts visitors, students, and community groups. Volunteers share responsibility in maintaining a safe environment.

Volunteers must:

  • Follow safeguarding guidance
  • Report hazards or concerns
  • Respect personal boundaries and wellbeing
  • Work within supervised areas only

3. Drugs & Alcohol Policy

Middle World Farms operates a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding illegal drugs and substance misuse on site.

Zero Tolerance. Volunteers must not bring drugs or illegal substances onto the farm or attend sessions under the influence. Anyone found in breach of this policy will be asked to leave immediately.

Alcohol is not permitted during working hours.

4. Volunteer Structure

Volunteering at Middle World Farms is primarily day-based and operates within scheduled, supervised sessions.

Short, pre-agreed overnight stays may be permitted where they support structured educational placements or specific project work. All stays must be arranged in advance.

5. Health & Safety

Volunteers agree to:

  • Follow tool and machinery safety guidance
  • Wear appropriate clothing and footwear
  • Work within their physical capability
  • Report injuries immediately

6. Land & Ecological Respect

Middle World Farms operates under regenerative, biodiversity-led principles.

Volunteers are expected to:

  • Respect soil systems and wildlife
  • Follow ecological growing methods
  • Avoid unnecessary disturbance of habitats

7. Agreement

Participation in volunteering confirms acceptance of this Code of Conduct and associated safeguarding policies.
