At Middle World Farms, safeguarding is the shared responsibility of all individuals who are part of our community. Each person, from staff to volunteers to visitors, plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe environment. To ensure effective safeguarding, we have clearly defined the roles and responsibilities as follows:

1. Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

• Role: The DSL is responsible for overseeing all safeguarding matters at Middle World Farms. They act as the primary contact for any safeguarding concerns and are the point person for any related investigations.
• Responsibilities:
  • Implement and regularly review the safeguarding policy.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff and volunteers on safeguarding matters.
  • Ensure all staff, volunteers, and participants are aware of safeguarding procedures.
  • Maintain confidential records of any concerns, reports, or incidents.
  • Liaise with local authorities or other external agencies when necessary.

2. Staff and Volunteers

• Role: All staff members and volunteers have a duty to protect and promote the welfare of all individuals who visit or participate in Middle World Farms’ activities.
• Responsibilities:
  • Complete safeguarding training and remain informed about our policies and procedures.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for everyone.
  • Recognise the signs of abuse, neglect, or distress and understand how to respond appropriately.
  • Report any safeguarding concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • Respect the confidentiality of safeguarding information and only share it on a need-to-know basis.

3. Visitors and Program Participants

• Role: All visitors, including parents, guardians, and members of the public, have a responsibility to adhere to Middle World Farms’ safeguarding standards while on the premises.
• Responsibilities:
  • Follow all guidelines provided by staff to ensure a safe and respectful environment.
  • Report any concerns about the welfare of individuals, especially children, young adults, or vulnerable people, to a staff member or the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • Respect the privacy of others and refrain from any behaviour that could be harmful or intrusive.

4. Parents and Guardians

• Role: Parents and guardians play an essential role in supporting the safeguarding practices at Middle World Farms.
• Responsibilities:
  • Familiarise themselves with Middle World Farms’ safeguarding policies.
  • Ensure children and young adults in their care understand the importance of respectful and safe behaviour.
  • Communicate any relevant medical or personal needs to staff that may impact safety or welfare.
  • Notify staff or the Designated Safeguarding Lead if they observe any concerning behavior or have concerns about the safety of their child or others.

5. Management Team

• Role: The management team is responsible for fostering a culture of safeguarding and ensuring that all policies are implemented effectively.
• Responsibilities:
  • Regularly review and update safeguarding policies to reflect best practices and legal requirements.
  • Ensure that all staff and volunteers are trained in safeguarding procedures.
  • Provide the necessary resources to support safeguarding practices.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks within the farm environment.
